MSC and Game Ready Partnership

MSC Care Management and Game Ready Partner to Launch New Below-The-Knee Wrap for Amputee Patients

Based on NASA Space-Age Technology, New Product Assists in Faster Return-to-Work as Well as Reducing Pain, Dependence on Narcotics, and Post-Operative Interventions

JACKSONVILLE, FL (February 21, 2013) – MSC Care Management, a One Call Care Management (OCCM) company, today announced that it has entered a strategic partnership with Game Ready®, the leader in injury treatment and post-operative recovery through active compression and cold technology, to develop and launch a new wrap for traumatic below-the-knee amputee patients.

Will Smith, Executive Vice President, Care Management Services at MSC, commented: “This go-to-market collaborative effort with Game Ready is an example of how MSC Care Management brings together best-in-class solutions, expertise, and products to transform the way injured workers receive care, from the point of injury to recovery. We are committed to providing a reliable connection to care that broadly impacts the claims lifecycle to enable more efficient claims resolution.”

Craig Grabell, President and CEO at Game Ready, commented: “MSC Care Management has an extensive network of insurance companies, payers, and medical providers who are dedicated to helping patients receive the highest quality of care and achieve the best-possible outcomes for their injuries. Now, these organizations, medical providers, and their patients can benefit from the Game Ready technology that is extensively used to aid in the recovery of world-class athletes, professional sports teams, and top military organizations.”

The new Game Ready traumatic amputee wrap incorporates technology that NASA used in the design of astronaut spacesuits. This best-in-class orthopedic medical device will aid in post-operative recovery of patients with below-the-knee amputations.

Controlling inflammation and swelling after surgery can allow the body to heal faster. However, conventional techniques, such as ice bags and cold packs, provide inconsistent and uncontrolled temperatures as well as poor coverage of the injured area. Traditional bandage wraps lack precise application of pressure.

Game Ready’s ACCEL™ technology combines active compression and cold therapies that help minimize pain and swelling while increasing blood flow and delivering oxygen to the injured area. As a result, lymphatic drainage is optimized, cellular oxygen supply is encouraged, and tissue healing is stimulated.

Recent studies have demonstrated that the Game Ready wraps result in less post-operative interventions, improved pain relief, and lower likelihood that patients will develop a dependence on narcotics. Patients are also recovering at a 30-50% faster rate, leading to a faster return to work and reduced time spent on modified duty.

It was just announced that MSC Care Management will be listed on Inc. Magazine’s exclusive ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies.
This list represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy—America’s independent entrepreneurs. Companies such as Microsoft, Zappos, Intuit, Jamba Juice, Zipcar, Clif Bar, Vizio, Oracle, and many other well-known names have been past members of this list.
During this time of economic uncertainty, being able to create jobs and continue to grow as a company is becoming all too uncommon. That is what makes this recognition of MSC and its leaders so exceptional.

On Wednesday, April 4th 2012, MSC Care Management was presented with the 2011 Corporate Engagement Award for its excellence in employee engagement and community service impacting areas of education, income and health. This was a special honor as it was the first year this award was ever given out. MSC received this award for all of the hard work the MSCares group did to implement the idea and keep it rolling; as well as for all of the employees who gave their time to volunteer for the day

MSC is a company that prides itself on giving back to the community. When the CEO Circle (Q4 2010) presented the idea for a “Volunteer Day” our Executive Leadership Team was happy to enable the employees to volunteer at special projects in conjunction with the United Way. In 2011, MSC held 6 volunteer days and this year 9 are planned. On each volunteer day, 25 employees give of themselves to help those less fortunate. Employees come back with a renewed sense of pride and commitment, eager to volunteer again.

MSC Acquires Total Medical Solutions

MSC Care Management, the industry’s leading provider of medical products and services to post-discharge and post-injury workers’ compensation claimants nationwide, announced today that it has acquired Total Medical Solutions (TMS), a national company specializing in large-loss claims. The acquisition of TMS brings with it more than 17 years of experience working with complex and catastrophic cases and further fortifies MSC’s position as the leading provider of clinically based, specialized ancillary solutions in the workers’ compensation market.

Comprised of industry professionals, TMS has distinguished itself by addressing all aspects of complex claims, from clinically managed homecare to home and vehicle modifications and assistive technologies. TMS’ Complex Care Unit (CCU) team immerses itself in each catastrophic case, assessing the claimant and researching rehabilitation treatment and technology options. The CCU gathers and synthesizes data into a comprehensive, multi-media report with detailed assessments and specific recommendations for home health care products and services.

“We have devoted ourselves to finding best-in-class solutions within our core area of expertise,” said Joe Delaney, MSC’s President and CEO. “Our guiding principle has been to combine clinical expertise with the most highly skilled network of locally based providers committed to delivering the best service possible. Our acquisition of TMS is evidence of our continued commitment to that strategy, as it further strengthens our in-house expertise surrounding the development and delivery of our catastrophic care program. TMS's professionals support our mission in every aspect of our business and culture,” Delaney said.
The highly successful TMS model provides a hands-on approach, which includes sending team members to work with claimants and their providers in rehabilitation centers or hospitals and visiting the claimant’s home to evaluate the physical and psycho-social environment. “Often we find that equipment prescribed at the rehab center doesn’t fit in the home, or that a ceiling lift could eliminate the need for a costly bathroom modification. Home visits also help determine the level of support the claimant will likely receive from family members. We are establishing relationships with everyone involved in the claim and we’re getting the right home modifications, equipment and services in place from the beginning, which ultimately contains costs,” said Cara Barde, Vice Chairman of the Board for TMS.

TMS’ Complex Care Unit standardizes the best practices developed over the years into a unique approach to caring for seriously-injured employees. This targeted approach will now be combined with MSC’s extensive team of more than 40 clinically trained Care Coordinators and RN’s, one of whom is assigned to each and every case. MSC’s clinical team provides peer-to-peer clinical support and streamlines the coordination of efforts between the claims team, field nurse case management staff and MSC on high-exposure catastrophic claims. “MSC’s clinical resources will help TMS deliver on its mission to provide the highest level of care so the claimant can achieve and sustain the greatest level of independence for as long as possible, while maximizing cost containment,” said Cara Barde.

"As severity levels rise and medical costs continue to climb, we remain committed to providing superior resources and capabilities for our clients," said Joe Delaney. "Our merger with Total Medical Solutions represents the coming together of two highly respected firms, which together represent a powerful solution in the management of large-loss claims. Together, we will continue to provide the highest quality of service to our clients with an increased ability to draw upon the expertise and resources for which MSC and TMS are well known."

MSC Monitors Patient Benchmarks on Behalf of Customers with MSC CareTrack

MSC Care Management, a national leader in delivery of medical products and care management solutions to the workers' compensation industry, introduces MSC CareTrack, a program that offers important patient data to help our customers manage patient care progress and product utilization.

The program, which is free to MSC customers, targets vital patient feedback on the quality of care they are receiving from MSC in particular, as well as changes or improvements to their overall quality of life in general. Tools such as standardized health surveys, utilization management reporting and quality assurance follow-up are gathered and combined to gain a total patient snapshot. Through MSC CareTrack, MSC conducts telephonic, automated outreach at predetermined intervals to each patient, throughout the continuum of care.

"Collectively, the information gathered through MSC CareTrack helps payors make informed decisions about adjustments to patient care that will help return the patient to work and an optimal level of functioning," explained Joe Delaney, President and CEO of MSC Care Management.

MSC CareTrack's automated health survey tracks patient progress and helps payors determine how well treatments are working. Powered by QualityMetric SF12v2® Health Survey (Short Form 12), this is a special breed of health survey that is scientifically valid and will capture practical, reliable, and accurate information to fill in the gaps and provide a unique understanding of what is really happening with a patient. This survey can provide a snapshot of overall health status and point to trends that could signal an important change in a patient's condition. The results can be used to prospectively assess risk, improve quality of care, and contain costs.

Application of our survey tool also provides ongoing oversight of our medical rentals management – usually a time-intensive process for claims professionals – and is conducted throughout a patient's care by verifying that the patient is continuing to use each rental product. This process allows MSC to more effectively monitor high-cost rental items for its customers and terminate rentals when the patient no longer uses or needs them, dramatically reducing the average monthly duration of rental products.

Data collected by MSC CareTrack can be used to make informed decisions about adjustments to patient care, while that care is being rendered, that will best contribute to a return to an optimal level of work and functioning. In addition, a payor now has access to a tool to evaluate progress for a defined population of patients and the related outcomes of new and innovative methods of treatment.
